So I have had my Fenix 5 for a few years, and when doing a long hike recently I noticed that after 5 hours of tracking it was down to 10% battery life. I know the backlight is a large driver of battery usage, so it is on 20% and is OFF during daylight hours anyway.

I doubt Garmin has Fenix 5 refurbs available anymore, but possibly. I would guess the cost to buy the parts and have the battery replaced wouldn't be more than $100 or $150 depending on the shop though. With the used prices for the F5 series being what they are, that's another option. You make a good point though.
